REACH

REACH

EC Regulation 1907/2006 CE (REACH stands for Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and restriction of Chemicals) became effective on the 1st of June 2007 and its main objective is to improve the protection of human health and the environment against the risks associated with chemical products.

REACH introduces an obligation to register all chemicals that are commercialized within the territory of the European Union. The regulation is applied to all silicon carbide producers with production plants in Europe, to all European silicon carbide importers, and to representatives of silicon carbide producers outside the European Union.

In order to comply with provisions of REACH, companies must identify and manage the risks associated with the chemicals they manufacture and commercialize in the European Union. The regulation is based on the principle that it is for manufacturers, importers and downstream users to ensure that they only manufacture, commercialize or use substances that do not have a negative impact on human health or the environment.

ECHA (European Chemicals Agency) is in charge of supervising the implementation of REACH standard. Navarro SiC has prepared through SiCMa (Silicon Carbide European Manufacturers) a REACH registration dossier for silicon carbide (raw and processed) which has been submitted to ECHA. Registration procedures are already operational and Navarro SiC S.A. is listed as an active company (01-2119402892-42-0003) registered for manufacturing, production and marketing of silicon carbide (CAS 409-21-2, EC 206-991-8).
